The Transforming Role of the Perioperative Nurse 2019

18 CPD Hours 27 Oct to 3 Nov, 2019

This Perioperative Conference is brought to you in conjunction with our Conference Partners, Education at Sea, and is intended to provide the Nurse with an opportunity to enhance and develop their skills and knowledge relating to key areas of the perioperative environment. The conference program presents current perioperative topics of significance and explores the latest Nursing research to create a conference experience that the perioperative Nurse will find both interesting and relevant.

Perioperative Nursing is a wonderful dynamic and challenging Nursing speciality. It is a team sport where medical, Nursing and ancillary staff are thrust together in a team environment. When this works well it is a masterpiece to behold, however, when personalities and unforeseen circumstances arise, it can be fraught with difficulties.

This Conference provides attendees 18 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The venue for the Conference is the Norwegian Bliss, a most fabulous Conference venue where you can explore key destinations along the Mexican Riviera outside the Conference program hours.

This seminar is designed to look at evidence-based literature and a deeper understanding of the perioperative environment; explore some of the possible emergency situations perioperative Nurses may face, and, provide knowledge to perform during these emergencies with confidence skill and know-how to deliver safer patient care. Perioperative Nursing is not always taught in the undergraduate curricula thus the importance of post registration education in this specialty area cannot be overestimated. This seminar will suit both novice and experienced perioperative Nurses.

Conference Learning Outcomes

  • To explore and more deeply understand the perioperative environment and how this may impact on adverse events
  • To provide evidence-based information about perioperative incidents from a case history perspective, and explore how we can prepare and prevent these occurrences
  • To discuss and understand the physiology and treatment of some perioperative emergency situations
  • To come away feeling educated, empowered and realising that perioperative nurses are brilliant!

The program content is provided by expert Nurse Educators with extensive clinical and education experience. The education content provided in this program meets the same exacting standards as anything offered in an Australian land-based program.

No matter what conference you attend you always need accommodation a cruise ship provides a great all-inclusive* accommodation option to enhance your Conference experience.

The Nurses for Nurses Network combines great education with fabulous travel adventures. We have taken a holistic approach to Nursing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to ensure you get the most out of your education-travel experience.

Dr Paula Foran, PhD., R.N., FACORN, FACPAN

For the past 30 years, Paula has had the privilege to work, teach and mentor staff within the perioperative environment. These years have made her wise and now she is able to provide a greater level of guidance and leadership to those more junior than she. Her work consists of many part-time positions that have synergy when placed together.

The Australian College of Operating Room Nurses (ACORN), the Australian College of PeriAnaesthesia Nurses (ACPAN), and her clinical work allows Paula to practice and her knowledge to be evidenced based and up to date. Her position on the Victorian Consultative Council for Anaesthetic Morbidity and Mortality is salient as it provides an insight and better understanding of the consequences of care and the importance of caring for the deteriorating patient.
