This conference will focus on the issues women face in our society including violence, conflict, poverty, discrimination, and other social, psychological, and biological factors – that impact the health of the individual and the delivery of health care to women.

The discussion will be framed in the Australian context and explore how these public health issues impact a woman’s experience of health services in both the community and hospital setting.

The Australian refugee experience will be included. The Vietnamese population ranks 6th in the top ten countries of birth for the overseas-born population of Australia.

This conference will be of interest to Health Care Professionals who provide services to female clients. To gain a better understanding of the female experience in society.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain an understanding of the public health issues women face in our society
  • Explore the social, psychological, and biological factors that impact women’s health
  • Consider the barriers to enhancement of health service delivery
  • Investigate how woman’s health issues are framed in the hospital and community setting

Gail Aylmer R.N., B.N., M.N. (Advanced Practice), M.N. (Mental Health Nursing)

Specialist Nurse Educator

Gail has worked for the last 8 years as a Public Health Nurse within the Communicable Disease team of a Queensland Public Health Unit. Gail has a diverse employment history working primarily in Australia plus also spent 18mths working as an Agency Nurse in England.

Jason Dawson R.N., BACH NURSING

Jason Dawson is a Registered Nurse from the Gold Coast Queensland. Whilst studying his bachelor of Nursing at Southern Cross University he developed an interest in mental health and has been working in this field of nursing since completing his studies in 2008.

In this time, Jason has undertaken varied roles including Acute Inpatient Nursing, Community Nursing, clinical facilitating and Nurse Unit Manager positions. In 2012, Jason combined his passion for nursing with his love of travel and founded CPD Cruise Pty Ltd with the view to providing Nurses the opportunity to update and improve their skills in diverse and unique locations.

Sue Walker R.N., BACH NURSING (Admin), M.P.H.C. (Palliative Care), MACN

Sue Walker is the Director and co-founder of the Nurses for Nurses Network and the Nursing CPD Institute. As a Registered Nurse Sue holds Degrees in Nursing and Health Administration, a Master’s Degree in Primary Health Care majoring in Palliative Care, as well as a number of certificate courses in Psychiatry of Ageing, Gerontology, Chemotherapy Administration, Training and Assessment, and is also an Accredited Mental Health First Aid Trainer.

Conference Program:

The program content is provided by expert Educators with extensive clinical and education experience. The education content provided in this program meets the same exacting standards as anything offered in an Australian land-based program.

In the spirit of adult learning, the Conference is delivered in two formats. The live presentations delivered in the Conference Room and there is the online library which is open one month prior to the actual Conference dates. The library is an essential component of the entire Conference program.

The library consists of Conference material supplied by the Presenter/s which can include any of the following:

  • Research documents
  • Links to external information
  • Recorded Conference presentations
  • Electronic Notepads

The research documents and recorded Conference presentation form part of the Continuing Professional Development activities but are delivered to you prior to the commencement date so that you can start your Conference Program early. If you choose not to undertake these activities prior, there is a two week window post the Conference where the library remains open to you. You can also undertake the library activities during the actual Conference.
